Our close relationships with community organizations across Alaska means we help mobilize resources quickly when disaster strikes.

In October 2025, severe storms along Alaska's western coast devastated many communities. With each passing day, the impact of Typhoon Halong's devastation grows. Thousands of Alaskans have been affected, and hundreds have been evacuated. These people desperately need support. As a convener and coordinator, United Way knows which funds will move your donations most quickly and efficiently to organizations that are best positioned to provide relief for Alaskans. Recovery efforts and long-term resilience are critical. Will you please help with our response? Please donate to Western Alaska Disaster Relief Fund and American Red Cross.

Your donations help Alaskans whose lives have been uprooted due to Typhoon Halong. After the disaster occurred, local and regional community organizations established the Western Alaska Disaster Relief Fund, housed at the Alaska Community Foundation. It provides support to affected communities for immediate relief, recovery support, and long-term resilience. The American Red Cross is already on the ground with volunteers from many organizations, providing mass shelter, meals, supplies, and more to evacuees.

Active Engagement

We're positioned to be highly responsive during unpredictable and unprecedented times, like Typhoon Halong. Because of our perspective and operations, we've been called on to participate in daily Emergency Operations Center coordination meetings. Accordingly, we're continuing to monitor the situation and coordinate with other response partners.

Critical Assistance

Alaska 211 supports statewide community needs and can ramp up if disaster strikes. Right now, we're providing up-to-date information and referrals to resources. Our community resource specialists are connecting evacuees and community members with emergency food and shelter, housing assistance, healthcare, counseling, and other vital support.

On-Going Commitment

While Alaskans' immediate needs are our current focus, this disaster requires long-term support and recovery efforts. Although its full scope is still emerging, we're committed through the long haul. We'll continue identifying Alaskans' needs and securing funds to help communities and Alaskans rebuild.
